About Howard Lock

Howard in his OfficeHoward Lock, B.Sc., EPA, CPA, MITMA, has been dealing in intellectual property matters for 20 years. Starting out with a background in chemistry and chemical engineering, he worked and acquired experience in intellectual property matters for firms in London, Nottingham, and Ottawa, Canada, before joining Swindell & Pearson, chartered patent  and trade mark attorneys, 15 years ago.

At Swindell & Pearson, where Howard became a partner in 2002, he has focused on dealing with all aspects of intellectual property work for clients from many different industries.  He has prepared a substantial number of patent, trade mark and design applications, shepherding these applications through the various stages at the Patent Office, with an emphasis on, but by no means limited to, the mechanical and chemical fields.  For those client desiring protection over a more widespread geographical area, Howard’s work has extended to European, US, and other overseas rights.

In starting up his own independent company, Howard’s purpose is to provide a personalised service to entrepreneurial clients, however large or small the scope of their business, without burdening these clients with the expensive overhead a larger firm carries with it; Howard looks forward to devising appropriate custom solutions for all types of businesses in order to help them to develop and expand.

Howard is a member of the Chambers of Commerce in Derbyshire, Sheffield, and Rotherham, as well as of both the Sheffield Business Club and the Sheffield Business Network.

When not working on intellectual property matters, Howard enjoys cycling, running, and martial arts. He has been cycle touring overseas and taken part in several races and triathlons. He is a member of his local cycling club and has recently branched out to join a martial arts club. Howard also enjoys music and literature in his leisure time.
